The following are the aims of our association: • Raise funds for the college, in order to assist in the purchase of the books and other learning materials and in the general maintenance of the college buildings. • Organise social gatherings of the old girls of the college and their families. • Organise cultural events to raise funds and to maintain our culture. • Introduce and facilitate integration of new comers and visitors into the association. • Now we are endeavouring to get old girls in other states to join our association. Activities 1. Had a very successful film screening in Sydney to raise funds for JHLC and donated A$2,500 (SRs. 112,800) to the JHLC Development Society, who bought two new Pentium computers for the students' use. 2.Had a members barbeque get together at the Olympic park in Sydney. Majority of members attended. Informal discussions were held on the methods to raise additional raise funds to help the school. We propose to continue the discussion in detail at the next Annual General meeting to be held on 23 February 2002. 3.We have planned to have our Annual General Meeting and the Dinner on 23 February 2002. For the first time in New South Wales, Tamil Language was introduced as a subject at the Higher School Certificate (HSC) examination (public examination). Twenty one students sat the examination with 100% pass rate and several of them with distinction passes. We are very glad to state that these students were taught by former JHLC teachers Mrs. Setha Shanmugasothy and Mrs. Kanagambikai Jeganathan. |
